Minimally invasive surgery has been shown to improve outcomes, improve pain, decrease recovery length, and optimize a patient's overall experience while they tackle difficult medical problems. Our surgeons leverage decades of compassion and expertise to employ the latest state-of-the-art techniques to treat thoracic disease. We often treat lung, chest wall, and esophageal cancers using video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) or da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery. The da Vinci System is powered by robotic technology that allows the surgeon’s hand movements to be translated into smaller, precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body, using tiny incisions.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States, among both men and women. Lung cancer claims more lives each year than do colon, prostate, ovarian and breast cancers combined. People who smoke have the greatest risk of lung cancer. Using a multi-disciplinary approach, we typically offer one or more treatments, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy or targeted drug therapy. We combine decades of experience, expertise, state-of-the-art technology, and compassion to help our patients through this difficult problem.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic inflammatory lung disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs. Symptoms include breathing difficulty, cough, sputum production and wheezing. It's caused by long-term exposure to irritating gases or particulate matter, most often from cigarette smoke. People with COPD are at increased risk of developing heart disease, lung cancer and a variety of other conditions. Emphysema and chronic bronchitis are the two most common conditions that contribute to COPD.
